With Bulletin For July 2 Service

July 01, 2023

Dear St. Paul’s Church Family,

The island’s summer season is suddenly in full swing with the arrival now of this extra long 4th of July weekend. There was a big bustling crowd this morning outside of Main Street’s coffee shops and also at Sustainable Nantucket’s outdoor market. Olly and I look forward to participating in Tuesday’s old fashioned festivities in town celebrating America’s independence.

Our nation’s nearly 250 year experiment with democracy is under a bit of a strain right now, as it has been in ages past. Currently, community divisiveness - often fueled by political rancor and grandstanding - is sadly being spread across social media and the airwaves like wildfire. As patriotic Americans and as followers in the way of Jesus Christ, we must be vigilant to resist this destructive trend. As we declare in our Baptismal Covenant, we know and trust that the strength and wellbeing of us individually and collectively is in seeking justice and peace for all people and in respecting the dignity of every human being. Let us together recommit to being agents of reconciliation so that we have even more to celebrate on July 4th, 2026, our wonderful nation’s Semiquincentennial.

This year’s St. Paul’s needlepoint rug has arrived and will be on display at church on Sunday mornings and soon in front of Murray’s Toggery Shop. Big thanks go out to Sheila Daume and her fellow stitchers for creating this lovely unique hanging inspired by our Tiffany flower windows and altar kneelers. Sales of the raffle tickets will help support our parish’s growing ministries and loving presence on island. We will be out with the birds in the garden for tomorrow’s 8:00 o’clock service, and then gifted pianist Dr. Jennifer Maxwell joins Joe Hammer for the 9:30 service inside. See you at church!

The peace and joy of Christ,

Max

2023 Stewardship Campaign Reaches $520,000

Thanks to the generosity of our Parish, our 2023 stewardship campaign has seen meaningful support   We’ve raised $520,000 so far from 174 pledgers, a financial increase of 17% over 2022 for this group of supporters. We are now just $5,000 from reaching our goal of $525,000.  If you have just arrived on island and have not yet pledged or if you have been waiting to pledge, you can help us complete this campaign by pledging now.  You can fill out a pledge form on the table in the back of the church or can download one from our website. You may also call the Finance Office – extension 16 in the Church phone directory – and leave a message with your pledge for either Becky Mack, our bookkeeper, or Martin McKerrow, our Treasurer.  They’ll do the rest and get you a confirmation of your gift.  We offer you our thanks in advance, as well as to parishioners who have already pledged.

Thank you! Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow!
