With Bulletin For September 24 Service

September 23, 2023

Dear St. Paul’s Church Family,

  One of the great joys of my ordained ministry is sharing the sacraments widely and in various locations. When Olly and I worshiped together in Boston as a young couple, the Rector regularly encouraged the congregation to take the love of God out into the world beyond the walls of our beautiful church sanctuary. We all do that with our daily interactions in the community when we strive to live into the vows of our Baptismal Covenant to seek and serve Christ in all people and to respect the dignity of every human being. And with many less man made rules than most denominations, I have been able to celebrate baptisms, weddings, Eucharists and even committals in the desert, on beaches, in the harbor and on rooftops.

 After decades of significant leaks, St. Paul’s Church’s bell tower has finally been successfully repaired. Alleluia! You can see that the gifted masons of Stone & Lime are back this fall restoring the integrity of our front steps and narthex, including interior wood damaged by the water intrusion. We thank Bob Felch and John Barnes for helping to oversee this important project.

  Rabbi Gary Bretton-Granatoor has invited The Rev. Carr Holland and me for a discussion of the Book of Jonah on Yom Kippur, the day of atonement. All are welcome to join us on Monday at First Congregational Church from 3:00 to 4:30. And if on island, please consider supporting the essential ministries of Nantucket Food, Fuel and Rental Assistance at their yearly fundraising event on October 1 at 6:00 o’clock at the Nantucket Yacht Club. Meanwhile, see you at church!

The peace and joy of Christ,

Max

Announcements

Offertory Anthem   What Wondrous Love Is This

             Appalachian Folk Hymn, arr. Trevor Manor

What wondrous love is this, O my soul, O my soul!

What wondrous love is this, O my soul!

What wondrous love is this That caused the Lord of bliss

To bear the dreadful curse for my soul, for my soul,

To bear the dreadful curse for my soul?

When I was sinking down, sinking down, sinking down,

When I was sinking down, sinking down,

When I was sinking down Beneath God’s righteous frown,

Christ laid aside his crown for my soul, for my soul,

Christ laid aside his crown for my soul.

To God and to the Lamb I will sing, I will sing,

To God and to the Lamb I will sing;

To God and to the Lamb, who is the Great “I AM,”

While millions join the theme, I will sing, I will sing;

While millions join the theme, I will sing!
