With Bulletin for August 8 Services

August 05, 2021

Dear St. Paul’s Church Family,

After two days of much needed rain, we and our gardens are refreshed as we head into a lovely weekend on the island. The Rev. Martin Smith arrives on this evening’s ferry and will be preacher for both Sunday’s 8:00 o’clock outdoor Eucharist in the Memorial Garden and for the 9:30 service inside church. Martin is a gifted author and retreat leader and always brings a unique perspective to the Gospel.

Joe Hammer is joined for Sunday’s 9:30 Eucharist by Jazz pianist Anthony Healy. Many will recognize Anthony from our uplifting 2019 Jazz Mass with dear parish friend saxophonist George Young. See Joe’s music notes below for more details, and the notice below about the Sinatra Tribute Concert on August 25th. Save the date!

Today Nantucket’s Board of Health cautioned islanders and visitors to observe precautions against the Delta variant and to wear face masks while inside public spaces. Our indoor 9:30 congregation has followed those guidelines for the past two Sundays, thank you! I apologize for technical glitches in our broadcasting for the past two weeks. Andrew will get us back on track for this Sunday, thank you again for your patience.

Blessings,

Max

Music Meditation        My Heavenly Father Loves Me         Anthony Healy, Joe Hammer

Music: Chara W. McMaster (cont.); arr. Sally DeFord (b. 1959)

Whenever I hear the song of a bird or look at the blue, blue sky; Whenever I feel the rain on my face or the wind as it rushes by; Whenever I touch a velvet rose or walk by our lilac tree, I’m glad that I live in this beautiful world Heav’nly Father created for me. He gave me my eyes that I might see the color of butterfly wings. He gave me my ears that I might hear the magical sound of things. He gave me my life, my mind, my heart: I thank him rev’rently for all his creations, of which I’m a part. Yes, I know Heav’nly Father loves me.

Music Notes – Sunday, August 8, 2021

St. Paul’s is pleased to welcome Anthony Healy back to the church for the August 8th, 9:30am service. Anthony previously played in George Young’s jazz quartet at St. Paul’s in 2019.

Anthony has been drawn to and inspired by the power of the piano since the age of four, when he was old enough to reach the keys. Frequently performing across the country, Anthony has a vast repertoire and is at ease in a variety of styles, including jazz, classical, blues, and pop.

Born and raised in Westborough, Massachusetts, by age 14, he was studying classical piano at The Boston Conservatory under Inna Muravnik. Anthony went on to earn a degree in music education with a piano performance focus, along with a minor in Italian studies, from Ithaca College. He earned a master’s degree in jazz performance from Western Michigan University.

Anthony performs regularly at the Nantucket Yacht Club and has been playing at The Club Car Restaurant since 2003. More recently, Anthony has collaborated with renowned saxophonist George Young, as well as soprano Rachael Gates, and continues to delight audiences each summer on Nantucket. An artist with great harmonic imagination, Anthony enjoys composing, arranging, and blending music from all genres.

Anthony currently lives in St. Paul, Minnesota, with his wife, Laura Betinis Healy (an accomplished vocalist) and their 3-year-old daughter. In every aspect of his musical style, Anthony challenges himself to live by the simple advice Bill Evans gave to Tony Bennett from his deathbed: “Beauty and Truth. Nothing else matters.”
