With Bulletin For May 29 Service

May 27, 2022

Dear St. Paul’s Church Family,
It is a joy to be back home on island after our brief respite away. Devastatingly, during that short time, our nation has witnessed two horrific acts of violence perpetrated by two young men which have sent us all reeling. The hateful, evil motivations coupled with easy access to murderous weapons are reprehensible to most Americans, yet we are paralyzed to seek solutions and unable to take constructive action. This is an especially sad and anxious era of our nation’s history, yet we do not dismay. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, we find solace and strength for the journey with God and together in community.
On Sunday morning we return to our summer worship schedule of 8:00o’clock Eucharist in our Memorial Garden (or inside church if inclement weather) and 9:30 in church with choir, followed again by coffee hour. I am honored to have been invited to offer the prayers at the cemetery following Sunday’s 1:00 o’clock Memorial Day parade. If you are on island, on Monday morning at 9:30 we will celebrate a Memorial Day Requiem at St. Paul’s. See you at church!
The peace and comfort of Christ,
Max

Music Notes
This morning, St. Paul’s welcomes back guest musician Andrew Byers. Andrew, a junior at Newton North High School, studies piano with Michael Becker at All Newton Music School. Andrew was introduced to the pipe organ while attending Interlochen Arts Camp for piano in the summer of 2019. He then began organ studies under the direction of Christian Lane at the Boston Organ Studio, returning to Interlochen as an organ major in the summers of 2020 and 2021, studying with Thomas Bara.

This past Wednesday, Andrew was one of six young organists who performed on the Great Organ at Methuen Memorial Music Hall for the “Pipedreams Live” Young Artists Concert, hosted by internationally acclaimed American Public Media broadcaster, Michael Barone.

Today’s Music Meditation, Hymne d'action de grâces "Te Deum", by French organist and composer Jean Langlais (1907-1991), was one of the pieces Andrew performed on Wednesday. Langlais based the piece on the Te Deum plainchant melody.
