With Bulletin for September 11 Service

September 09, 2022

Dear St. Paul’s Church Family,

Some of the earliest ancient images of Christ - unearthed on mosaics and in the catacombs - are not of the Crucifixion but of Christ as the Good Shepherd. Often the rescued lost lamb (described in this Sunday’s Gospel) is depicted being carried on the Shepherd’s shoulders safely back to the flock. Our window in the nave of the church, created by Willet Glass, portrays the lamb nestled in the Shepherd’s arms, a metaphor for our experience of Christ in this life and the next.

We commend into God’s perpetual keeping Queen Elizabeth II. Of the many historic titles of the Queen, one for which I most admire her is Defender of the Faith. Although The Episcopal Church is an independent province of the Anglican Communion, we share the Church of England tradition that nurtured the Queen throughout her long life of extraordinary service. In her broadcasts and official statements, she witnessed to her Christian faith boldly while also expressing respect for the dignity of people of all faiths and no faith. May she rest in peace and rise in glory.

We return to our single 9:30 Eucharist on Sunday morning, bringing our flock back together before our snowbirds head south. Joe Hammer has several choir members in the chancel, and we plan on returning to the altar rail for Communion with extra ushers to assist. See you at church!

The peace and joy of Christ,

Max

Join the full throng; wake, harp and psalter and song: Sound forth in glad adoration! W Praise to the Lord, who o’er all things so wondrously reigneth, who, as on wings of an eagle, uplifteth, sustaineth. Hast thou not seen how thy desires all have been granted in what he ordaineth?
