With Bulletin For September 3 Service

September 01, 2023

Dear St. Paul’s Church Family,

Labor Day weekend and September are already upon us. In our conversations on the sidewalks of the town, so many parishioners and neighbors have remarked how fleeting this summer season has been, seemingly more than usual. I am glad that I looked ahead in May and reserved in my datebook the many concerts and special events we hosted at St. Paul’s Church. Next year I hope to reserve more dates for visiting with beloved summer parishioners before the season gets away from me, and maybe even be more intentional about beach time and sailing. Of course in ministry, much of the most important work comes with the interruptions, not from what is prescheduled.

The winning raffle ticket for this year’s needlepoint rug will be pulled on Sunday morning at the 9:30 service. We thank Sheila Daume for working with the artist and again organizing her devoted crew of fellow stitchers: Jeannette Fowlkes, Lucile Hays, Nancy Bills, Jeanne Boone, Mary Jo Beck, Daphne Mitchell, and Sheila Daume. We thank the stitchers, the ticket table volunteers, our patrons, and the staff of Murray’s Toggery Shop for their support again. This is a marvelous parish tradition. (General Manager, Connor Soverino, is pictured above with parishioners Susie O’Brien and Steve Kelly.)

Cherished parish family member Dr. Faith Frable is rightfully being honored for her lifesaving skills as recipient of the Maurice E. Gibbs Commendation Award. Olly and I are alive to testify to Faith’s courage, diagnostic insights, and calm strength in the midst of medical emergencies. She is a godsend for our island community. Congratulations, Faith!

We are out in the Memorial Garden on Sunday morning for our final 8:00 o’clock Eucharist of the season. We are grateful for Adam Dread’s dedicated service setting up, ushering, greeting and reading throughout the summer. It continues to be a lovely worship experience for early birds and vacationers alike, and it will be Memorial Day weekend before you know it and we will be back out there with the birds singing. See you at church!

The peace and joy of Christ,

Max
